After four wonderful days on the Nile, we flew from Aswan to the amazing city of Cairo. The picture taking commenced the mom
ent we took off in our van from the Cairo Airport. Our first stop was the hotel...The Movenpick by the Pyramids. (photos later of the amazing rooftop cafe view!) We dropped off our bags, enjoyed a leisurely snack in the outdoor cafe and, in due time, were picked up for the pyramid Sound and Light Show that evening. It was a nice display and certainly whetted our appetite f
or what was to follow the next morning....the pyramid and sphinx tour! Our tour guide, Fady, was an Egyptologist, educated at Cairo Universtiy. The guy knew his stuff! We had a facinating look around the pyramid grounds. Camels, of course, were part of the deal. Keith and Sam paid the extra 100 Egyptian pounds (about $20 US) to climb inside of the largest pyramind. It was a very narrow, steep stairway, leading to the central burial chamber. Not much to see, the explorers said, but the
y had to do it, just to say that they had been inside a Great Pyramid! And then there was the Sphinx. Oh my...incredible! Here we were looking at, climbing on and inside of and taking pictures of sights we had seen on
ly on documentaries and in our 4th grade social studies book! Once Fady could drag us away from the pyramid/sphinx grounds, we stopped at a papyrus factory, a jewelry store (I am smiling!) and finally, for
a late but traditional Egyptian lunch buffet at one of his favorite restaurants. We headed back to our hotel and managed to fit in little relaxation by the pool and later, dinner at Hard Rock Cairo, right on the Nile....great ending to an "unbelieveable" day!

Hi Kim...thanks so much for letting me know about this! I have gone back and read all the entries and have really enjoyed them. You take wonderful pictures...is there a website where you share just them? Just one question, Did Jake not bring Sam an aggie shirt when he came? I hate that he has to wear that orange shirt in every photo ;) I miss seeing you, and am living vicariously through your adventure.
