We Had Fun, Fun, Fun!
Just one more "Jake's Spring Break" story. On the last day Jake was here, Keith took off from work and Sam just happened to have a day off from school. We packed it up and headed, once more, for the hills, er, dunes. Just one stop on the way. It, of course, involved food. We stopped for breakfast at Ric's Country Kitchen, right here in Doha. That is just about as close to good ol' boy Texas as you get in this part of the world. Talk about huge platters of down home country breakfast...that's exactly what you get at Ric's. As you can tell in the photo, the decor is strictly God Bless America, with a whole lot of Texas thrown in. We left with very full tummies and smiles on our faces. At this point, we were totally focused on our goal...4 wheeler riding in the desert. And, four wheeler riding it was! The guys all had a blast. I, too, had a blast...taking pictures, that is. There was only one rider thrown during our desert rodeo. Jake was going pretty darn fast on a flat, packed area and did not see a rather large hole in the sandy ground. Bam...the four wheeler went one direction and Jake went the other, head first! Good thing those Shrull boys have hard, German heads! I did not see the afore mentioned incident....that was another good thing! Jake had a bit of a headache after that, but he was a real trooper. The fun factor far outweighed the pain. On the way back to Doha, we stopped in a small town named Al Wakra. We happened upon some old, grounded fishing boats on the beach there, as well as some ruins of the old village that are currently being renovated. Fun photo op for Mom. Our last stop for the night, before taking Jake to the airport, of course also involved food. We went to dinner at Turkey Central. They don't call it that because they serve turkey! (my first thought) Yum...we managed to put away our fair share of shish te wouk (grilled chicken), flat bread and hummus. The last part of the day, that taking Jake to the airport part, I will not dwell upon. You can only imagine. We were so glad that our precious Aggie choose to spend his Spring Break with us. Thank you, Jake...we love you! We had a more than great time and cherished every moment spent eating, mosque touring, dune bashing, eating, four wheeler riding, eating....and just being together. Will, it's your turn!
